Division
Shipping Division
The Shipping Division of the Ministry of Ocean Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries and Shipping is responsible for:

 ensuring the safety and security of ships
 the protection of life and property at sea and the marine environment

To be reliable and reputable ship registry having at heart safety of life and property, enhancement of maritime security and preservation of the marine environment.
Fisheries Planning and Licensing Division
The Planning Unit is responsible for planning, implementation of fisheries policies, compiling and processing of fisheries information.
Aquaculture Division
The Aquaculture Division is responsible for the promotion of aquaculture development to increase fish production through research on different marine and freshwater species. A marine ranching programme is also being implemented involving the release of fingerlings of rabbitfish and seabream in the lagoon to enhance the stock. The division is also involved in seed production of the giant freshwater prawn, red tilapia hybrid, seabream and provides extension services to local farmers.
Laboratories and Documentation Division
The Laboratories Division is involved in long-term monitoring of coastal water quality in terms of physico-chemical and microbiological parameters. The division is also involved in the long term monitoring of harmful marine microalgae at established sites, detection of ciguatoxin in fish and conducting awareness campaigns on toxic fish present in Mauritian waters. The division comprises three laboratories, namely the Marine Chemistry, Marine Microbiology and Fish Toxicity laboratories.
Fisheries Management Division
The Division is responsible for carrying out research, monitoring and development activities aimed at increasing knowledge on the fishery resources found in our Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) with a view to enabling its sustainable utilisation. Its activities include research and assessment of fish stocks, monitoring of fishing activities and the dissemination of information on fisheries matters.
Marine Conservation Division
The Marine Conservation Division is responsible for the long-term protection and conservation of marine bio-diversity and habitats for sustainable use while maximizing economic and social benefits.
Marine Science Division
Goal:
To assess the marine ecosystems for sustainable use of marine resources.

Objectives:
To collect ecological data on coral reefs, mangrove and seagrass ecosystem to assess the status of marine environment for sustainable management and decision-making.
