Fisheries Training and Extension Centre (FITEC)
The Fisheries Training and Extension Centre (FiTEC) situated at Pointe aux Sables was set up through a grant from the Government of Japan to provide additional facilities for the development of off lagoon fishing and training of fishermen. FiTEC became operational in October 2004 and obtained the MS ISO 9001:2008 certification for quality management in 2010.
Albion Fisheries Research Centre (AFRC)
The Albion Fisheries Research Centre (AFRC) was established in 1981/1982 with the assistance of the Government of Japan under a Grant Aid Project and it is operational since June 1982, under the aegis of the Ministry of Fisheries.
Fisheries Protection Service (FPS)
Today, the FPS is a full-fledged enforcement arm of the Ministry of Ocean Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries & Shipping with proper infrastructure, logistic and equipment. It caters for an efficient control over the fishing activities not only in lagoon and off lagoon but also in respect of regional fishing under bilateral conventions and regional cooperation with joint patrol under the Monitoring, Control and Surveillance (M.C.S) Programme in the EEZ and over territorial waters of Mauritius.
Seafarers' Welfare Fund
The Seafarers’ Welfare Fund
On end December 2008, the Seafarers’ Welfare Fund (SWF) Act 2008 came into operation. It was created in order to cater for the social and economic welfare of seafarers in Mauritius and take over and manage the assets and discharge the liabilities of the Seafarer’s Welfare Fund established under the Merchant Shipping (Seafarer’s Welfare Fund) Regulations 2002.

Seafood Hub
The Seafood Hub is defined as: “An efficient and attractive environment for the supply of value added processes and services related to the sourcing and marketing of sea food products”.
The objective is to transform Mauritius into a Seafood Hub for trading, warehousing, processing, distribution and re-export of fresh, chilled and frozen or value added seafood products.
Competent Authority Seafood services
The Competent Authority Seafood is a public body under the aegis of the Ministry of Ocean Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries and Shipping and is responsible for the verification and certification of fish and fish products for export primarily to Member States of the European Union (EU) as well as to non-EU countries.
